One of the oldest, most widely known and well-respected names in the Bay Area, this company enjoys steady business by providing quotes to interior designers, facility managers and contract furniture purchasing groups for furniture reupholstery, pillows and complex cushions. Its success comes from high-quality workmanship and top-notch customer service, including professional project management. The Company also benefits from an increasing awareness that furniture reupholstery is not just less expensive than buying new, it also reduces the amount of furniture in landfills.
Sales and profits have been very consistent for the last five years. In 2019, the Company enjoyed cash flow of $445,083 on sales of $2,443,230. Sales dipped in 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic but recovered to $2,608,443 in 2022 and $2,459,802 in 2023. The Company has a long history and excellent reputation serving residential customers, but currently, about 90% of business comes from the commercial sector. According to the Owner, growth potential exists due to the current focus on furniture reuse. She believes an exceptionally strong demand for commercial furniture reupholstery may come within a year or two. In the meantime, she says, the best way to jumpstart growth locally is to revive the residential business, albeit in a strategic manner, working with residential interior designers.
The new owner of the business does not need to know anything about furniture reupholstery. There are four experienced employees on the shop floor, including a senior upholsterer who has been with the Company for more than 35 years, and an expert seamstress. There are also four management level employees who perform operations, workshop supervision and project management. About half of the reupholstery is performed by trusted subcontractors.
The current owner obtained an SBA loan when she acquired the business 12 years ago, and the business remains a strong candidate for a loan for the right Buyer.
